¡Lotería!

Diseñé esta versión del juego tradicional de Lotería para iniciar una conversación sobre el maltrato y la criminalización de los hispanos y latinos por parte de los estadounidenses en los Estados Unidos, mientras que su cultura es mercantilizada por su estética por las mismas personas.
Cada ilustración está inspirada en un aspecto de la cultura hispana / latinx que se apropia indebidamente, está inspirada o representa una amenaza directa para la cultura y la gente hispana / latinx. Algunas tarjetas también se basan en artículos, revistas y relatos personales que he investigado durante el transcurso de este proyecto.
Elegí diseñar un juego porque los juegos son una excelente manera de unir a las personas y crear un entorno accesible para la discusión y la educación sobre este tema. Loteria fue el juego perfecto para usar como medio debido a sus raíces mexicanas, su dependencia de la posibilidad de ganar y porque la crisis fronteriza en curso tiene lugar a lo largo de la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México.
A través del rediseño de mi Lotería, espero inspirar a las personas a apreciar y valorar más la cultura hispana / latinx y enseñarles a mis conciudadanos algunas de las injusticias que enfrentan las personas hispanas / latinx en sus respectivos países, en su viaje a través de países vecinos y sobre la inmigración. a EE. UU., específicamente a los de Venezuela, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Honduras y El Salvador.
I ended this project on 5 May 2020, but injustice towards undocumented Hispanic/Latinx immigrants is still a pressing issue. In the US, Immigrants in ICE detention in California are being sprayed over 50 times a day by HDQ Neutral, which is not intended for indoor use and causes serious side effects such as internal bleeding and irritated skin. Additionally, over 1,500 children that were supposed to be in ICE detention centers remain unaccounted for, as of 21 May 2020. This news was followed by a release of the court case of Katie Johnson v. Donald J. Trump and Jeffrey Epstein, which leads to the strong suspicion that the current POTUS is involved in human/sex trafficking of those missing children. Finally, our failure of a government does not have the resources to take care of its people during this pandemic, let alone 510,854 immigrants being cycled into detention centers throughout the year.
All of this to say: It is our humanitarian responsibility to be educated and aware of these injustices so that we may protest against them, provide aid when possible, and dismantle the systemic racism that perpetuates the mistreatment, abuse, and murder of POC.
